Passing the TOEFL requires several distinct skills that are commonly encountered in academic situations, such as understanding of spoken lectures, comprehension of written texts, and self-expression in written and spoken form. Manhattan Review students are carefully taught how to develop these skills in step-by-step fashion, and they also learn how to maximize the effectiveness of their study time and how to use practical test-taking strategies to optimize score results. With Manhattan Review's TOEFL prep courses or TOEFL private tutoring in St. Gallen, you can begin mastering academic English right away.
It is important for prospective undergraduate or graduate international students to become familiar with the TOEFL expectations of their specific degree programs. Even within a given university, TOEFL standards can be unevenly applied. The Graduate School of Education at Harvard University, for example, requires all four sectional TOEFL subscores to be at least 26, for a total score of 104. Harvard's Kennedy School of Government has slightly lesser general TOEFL requirements of 100 total and 25 on each section, but they will consider lower-scoring applicants to some of their degree programs. The Harvard Graduate School of Design is much more lenient with respect to TOEFL standards, and applicants can qualify for admission with a total score of 92. Target TOEFL scores, whatever they may be, provide structure and direction to TOEFL study plans, and allow students to focus on the particular skills that are most relevant for them.
Manhattan Review has helped students in many countries around the world get accepted to elite universities such as Harvard, Cambridge, Princeton, Oxford, MIT, the University of Edinburgh, Columbia, Brown, the University of Pennsylvania, King's College London, Cornell, Stanford, the University of Chicago, the London School of Economics, Georgetown, the University of Michigan, UCLA, UC Berkeley, and the University of Virginia. Meet a St. Gallen TOEFL Tutor: Josh W.
Josh W., originally from Binghamton, New York, is a graduate of the University at Buffalo and the State University of New York at Stony Brook, with bachelor's and master's degrees in English literature. He has been a TOEFL prep tutor and English language instructor since 2010, and is a relatively new arrival in St. Gallen. He also spent two years as a high school teacher in upstate New York.
As a TOEFL teacher, Josh is known for his engaging approach to TOEFL exercises and his creativity in devising TOEFL pedagogical aids. "I'm lucky to have ended up in one of Josh's TOEFL courses," said a former student. "He is very good at keeping things interesting." Though Josh has a busy teaching schedule, he tries to make time for his favorite hobbies, which include playing the piano, weight training, and hiking.
